Scrolls – End User Licence Agreement (Supplementary Terms)

DRAFT – NOT LEGAL ADVICE – REQUIRES SOLICITOR REVIEW BEFORE PUBLICATION

Prepared: 16 October 2026 · Version 0.1 (draft) Operator: The Founders Ltd

0. Relationship to Apple's Standard EULA

0.1 This document sets out supplementary terms that apply in addition to, and are subject to, the Apple App Store and iTunes Terms of Service and the Apple standard Licensed Application End User Licence Agreement ("Apple EULA") that you accept when downloading Scrolls from the App Store.

0.2 To the extent of any conflict between this document and the Apple EULA or Apple's Terms of Service, the Apple EULA and Apple's Terms of Service prevail.

0.3 This document does not modify, waive, or limit any term of the Apple EULA. It addresses matters specific to Scrolls that are not covered by, or that supplement, the Apple EULA.

0.4 By downloading, installing, or using Scrolls, you agree to this document in addition to the Apple EULA.

0.5 This document is provided in accordance with Apple Guideline 3.1.2 (auto-renewing subscription disclosures) and the App Store Review Guidelines regarding end-user licence agreements for apps containing user-generated content and paid digital content.

1. Operator

1.1 The Founders Ltd, company number 17035648, registered in England and Wales, registered office: 22 Villiers Gardens, London, England, E20 1GW. Email: [email protected].

2. Licence Scope

2.1 Subject to your valid entitlement (free, subscription, or one-off purchase) and your compliance with these Terms, The Founders Ltd grants you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, non-sublicensable, revocable licence to:

  • (a) access and read digital book content within the Scrolls application on a device you own or control;
  • (b) use the social and club features (clauses 5–6) for personal, non-commercial purposes;
  • (c) create and maintain a user profile and account.

2.2 The licence is limited to one user at a time per device, with the exception that a subscription may be used on multiple devices registered to the same Apple ID, as permitted by Apple's standard EULA.

2.3 The licence does not grant you the right to: copy, reproduce, distribute, publicly perform, create derivative works from, scrape, or commercially exploit any content; transfer, sell, or sublicense the content or the licence; reverse-engineer, decompile, or disassemble the application; or remove any copyright, trademark, or content-identifier notices.

2.4 The licence is terminated automatically upon: expiry or cancellation of your subscription; termination of your account; material breach of these Terms; or withdrawal of the content by The Founders Ltd or the rights-holder.

3. Restrictions

3.1 You must not:

  • (a) use Scrolls for any unlawful purpose;
  • (b) use automated means (bots, scrapers, crawlers) to access content beyond normal personal reading;
  • (c) attempt to bypass, disable, or interfere with digital rights management, access controls, or entitlement checks;
  • (d) use the Service to distribute content to third parties not covered by your licence;
  • (e) use Scrolls in a manner that could reasonably damage, disrupt, or impair the Service or its infrastructure;
  • (f) misrepresent your identity or impersonate another person or entity in social features;
  • (g) upload or post content that is infringing, defamatory, obscene, or otherwise illegal.

3.2 Violation of these restrictions may result in immediate suspension or termination of your account and licence without refund.

4. Content Licences

4.1 Public-domain content. Texts in the public domain are free of copyright restriction. Where the source is Project Gutenberg, the Project Gutenberg Licence and any associated trademark conditions apply as published by Project Gutenberg. We do not claim ownership of public-domain texts.

4.2 Licensed content. Licensed titles are made available under licences held by The Founders Ltd from the respective rights-holders. Your right to access is limited to the scope of our licence and the entitlement you hold (subscription or one-off purchase). We make no representation that our licence is perpetual or irrevocable.

4.3 Original content. Original titles authored or commissioned by The Founders Ltd are protected by copyright. All rights reserved.

4.4 Cover art and design elements. Cover images, typography, and UI design elements may be separately licensed or owned by third parties. A licence to read the text does not include a licence to the cover image or design.

4.5 Third-party content. Where Scrolls displays content from third-party sources (e.g., PoetryDB, dictionary services, text-to-speech voice models), that content is used in reliance on the applicable open or other licence (e.g., CC BY 4.0, CC BY-SA). Attribution is provided in-app where the licence requires it. You are responsible for complying with any licence conditions that apply to your use of such content.

4.6 Samples. The server-cut sample (default chapter 1) provided to non-entitled users is for preview only and does not constitute a licence to the full work.
